Sofitel JBR Pre Iftaar dinner was something one must try in Dubai. It was 7 in the evening and the Dubai team was ready to review the Iftaar Menu at the Sofitel JBR.It was being hosted at the A.O.C. which happens to be a French Brasserie. The Brasserie is located on the 3rd floor and has an indoor and outdoor sitting for 300 odd guests.Upon entering we were greeted by the staff who readily helped us to our table. We requested a corner table which was made available to us almost immediately.

The Ambience

The overall ambience is high-class. The wall panels, ceiling décor, furniture are all made of premium wood. The beige and brown flooring gave the indoor sitting a very luxurious feel. The lighting was bright yellow and added to the overall classiness of the place. The outdoor sitting was more relaxing with sofas and couches spread across the area with coffee tables at their center Mist fans helped to keep the temperature in check. A pool overlooking the Arabian Gulf and the adjoining Jebel Ali Port helped to add opulence to the place.

The table had a sumptuous looking salad and the nuts plate placed at its core with a decorative Arabic table cloth below. The plates and the cutlery were exactly where they should have been. The strong wooden chairs made the sitting comfortable. Now, we were ready to feast!!

The Food

The Brasserie had a wide variety in their spread. From tradition Arabic iftar food such as nuts, dates, olives, and cheese etc. to chocolate and banana crepes. With the limited appetite that we had, each of us tried different cuisines to have a better overview about the food.

The salad bar looked like an exciting place to start with all the fresh veggies and the different types of dressings like Balsamic, Caesar and Southern French dressing.

The cheese spread look delicious with exotic items such as Nabulseyeh, Ekkawi, Feta Cheese balls and others. We collectively tried most of it and arrived at a mutual conclusion to go in for a second helping.

With our salad temptations over, we moved on to the appetizers to find some yummy looking chicken and fish grills. However, the grills were undercooked and could have been better.

The main course started with a traditional lentil soup which was good.  The main course offered a combination of Arabic, Asian, and North India dishes such as butter chicken, Veg. Biryani, lamb biryani, Tangerine chicken, noodles etc. There was a live shawarma counter which was quite a hit amongst all the guests. Overall the food was good and barring a few exceptions.

The Dessert Bar

This was the feature of the evening. The options available would definitely satiate the sweet tooth for anybody. From mousse cakes and traditional Arabic sweets to fresh fruits and chocolate crepes, the dessert bar had everything that you could imagine. We were really amazed by the options and wanted to try all of them, however, it was difficult given the small appetite we all bore after our main course.

The Shisha Lounge

Shisha is a staple “after dinner relaxer” here in middle-east and A.O.C. had loads of flavors to offer. The shisha lounge is basically the outdoor sitting which is by a pool overlooking the Arabian Gulf. We had a grape mint and watermelon shisha which really helped the food to settle down and relax a bit.

The Overall Experience

We were quite stuffed and happy at the end of our review. The service was great. The food was good. Ambience and the shisha helped us relax. Having said that, Sofitel’s A.O.C. does offer one of the best Iftaar dinners in town. Given the food and activity options, A.O.C. is definitely a must try if you are looking to enjoy a fun-filled evening with your closed ones.
