Oppo F1s Selfie Expert Review – How does it help a solo woman traveler?
Rate this post

As solo women travel bloggers, our first priority becomes capturing those beautiful travel moments while we are in them. Initially, when I started travelling, I never thought of taking selfies as this was back when I was 16.  Now when I travel, I take selfies to capture the memories of the place with me in the pictures. Is it really that hard to believe that a young, attractive female would be traveling on her own, without the financial aid or company of a man or friend? Apparently, it is because it seems like whenever I post a photo with just me in it, when I’m traveling solo, there is, without fail, at least one person who comments and says, “Who’s taking the picture?” It is as if they’re trying to say that there is a hidden traveller when actually there I am the only one, travelling solo. This has not only happened to me but to many other travel bloggers too.

Now that’s exactly how a Chinese company with a global presence – Oppo – is feeling. It is proud of the fact that it supports travellers like us. The fast growing social media trend says that everybody wants to share that perfect ‘selfie’ by posting pictures of them in an exotic location. So brands like Oppo have matched the ‘Consumer Demand’ and launched OPPO F1S recently. Around 2010, most mobile companies focused only on the rear camera and new technology was being invented for the same. But now #Selfie is creating a big wave in each marketing plan, which is why smartphone companies are working on getting the best technology for it.

I was invited along with other bloggers to the launch of Oppo F1s-Selfie Expert, where the brand made a big announcement. Celebrities like Sonam Kapoor, Dabboo Ratnani, and Yuvraj Singh were present during the launch. Two big announcements by the brand moved the smartphone lovers. First, they decided to manufacture OPPO mobiles in India. The new plant will be in Greater Noida and they are looking at investing around 100 Crore Rupees in the manufacturing facilities. The second announcement during launch was towards CSR initiative. OPPO has tied up with YOUWECAN a charity foundation formed by ace cricketer Yuvraj Singh, where he works with underprivileged children who are struggling with cancer and helps them financially. OPPO gifted him Rs. 40 Lakhs to help these kids, as Yuvraj himself is a proud survivor of cancer.Launch oppof1s 2 Launch OppoF1s

After hearing these announcements and few others, I came to the conclusion that Oppo as a brand is looking for long-term investments and it is considering India as their market. Everybody knows that connecting with Bollywood is the best way to create buzz about a new kid on the block. The brand currently is not only thinking of being a seller but also thinking of being connected to lives of Indians in various ways.

The “Selfie Expert”, OPPO F1s, has been designed keeping in mind the current trend of ‘Selfie’, the word, which has now also been added to the dictionary. I received the sleek, stylish and super smartphone during the launch and I was excited to test it for them. The USP of OPPO F1s is the ‘Beautify 4.0’ feature that can give you flawless selfies where you can change the light and select the skin tone from fair to rosy. I found the pictures smooth and flawless and I would say that one doesn’t need any more editing after seeing them.Oppo F1s Review Pic 2

About OPPO F1s

The design for the smartphone has been thought through and it is a stylish approach. It has a sleek, stylish and smooth micro-arc edge that encircles the phone and enhances its looks. The F1s has a 5.5-inch 2.5 D corning Gorilla Glass 4 screen, with a pre-applied protective screen coating, giving a premium look without sacrificing premium durability. It has a triple-slot card tray that has space for two Nano 4G SIM cards and an SD card to expand the storage space up to 128 GB. Now this is something that will make the travel and the beauty blogger happy. With the kind of storage that one needs nowadays, I would say that even 1 TB of hard disk space on mobile would be less.  The Octa-core processor has 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM. There is endless opportunity for heavy apps to run in the background, without any of the apps hanging. It gives a very smooth user experience too.  Oppo F1s ReviewSlim Opp F1s Review

The F1s has a 16 megapixels front camera with a 1/3.1-inch sensor and a large f/2.0 aperture lens. So this means that it can give a clear selfie even in low lighting conditions. Most of the cameras have more megapixels on their rear cameras than the front camera. However, F1s broke the norm and has a 13 megapixels camera with the rear camera, which autofocuses very quickly. It also has a smart anti-shake optimization. This is very helpful when one would want to capture a moving train through the fields. I might have to take this phone on a trip to check the other features. The inbuilt time lapse and panorama maker are quite useful during travels. They capture the essence of the place. You can even shoot your pictures in raw and HDR.

Camera Setting OPPO F1s

I haven’t really explored the fingerprint technology but I have heard from other bloggers that it is quite innovative and fast. The price point is very apt for OPPO F1s, keeping in sync with the current market prices and the target audience. It is priced at INR 17,990.

After talking about the technicality for the phone let’s compare it to other phones which fall in the same category. I would compare it to Samsung and iPhone smartphones. Let’s first get started with the front camera to see exactly if stands true to the word ‘Selfie Expert’.

Samsung and Oppo Collage

When you compare Samsung A7 which has beautification feature but I feel OPPO F1s feature is clearly the winner. Since OPPO F1s has a 16-megapixel front camera while Samsung A7 has an only 5-megapixel front camera the pictures are bound to be sharper, clear in terms of quality.

Oppo & Iphone

I would say I am clearly fed up of people talking about the camera for iPhone 6. Well, I somehow deep down knew that the results in comparison OPPO would be on top. Both the selfies were taken simultaneously and you can see how unclear and dull Iphone6 photo looks in low light condition. OPPO F1s has much softer quality without flash.

“Overall, if I have to rate this phone then I would say 7 out of 10. In the fantastic price point, they have to offer the features, camera built, and style, it would be perfect companion for someone who swears by selfie during their travels”

PS: I was invited to attend the OPPO F1s launch in Mumbai and received the lovely device to review. Planning to gift it to my sister as I would consider her as a selfie queen.
