5 Off Beat Stays In India !
Rate this post

From 2001, I have always stayed in the local home stay, to cherish local culture, experience local food, feel safe as a solo traveler and explore offbeat & undiscovered places. Where Indian hospitality is always referred to as “Best Hospitality”, most tourists miss experiencing this by staying in hotels. Myindianstay.com has now made it easy to hunt for these homestays. Homestays are the best way to support eco-tourism & responsible tourism where locals of the village can have a sustainable life. Scrolling various destinations & lovely properties-Off beat stays- they have under one place, I decided to experience them during my next travel.

1. Untouched Natural Bounty in a Tree House in Leh, Kashmir

Ladakh a destination will always remain special to me as this was my first destination that I traveled solo in 2001 when I was only 16 yrs old. I still visit these splendid places to teach in schools where Ladakh kids enjoy reading, learning how to use swing, and create puppets from home items. I have always stayed in homestays there with local people in the areas that are completely remote. When I was browsing the website, I came across this beautiful Treehouse, in Leh. If I go to Ladakh this year, I would definitely stay at this place!

The first experience of a tea farm in Darjeeling, during Rickshaw Run, was a moment I cannot forget. Now image a cottage offering dazzling view of the Himalayas and you waking up to the aroma of the fresh tea is what my upcoming summer getaway is going to be. They have a quaint swimming pool, where a water buffalo like me would be swimming whole day. They also have organic farms from which they make food for the guest. I would be healthier after living in a city like Mumbai.

When I saw this cottage surrounded with snow, I was tempted to book right away for winters. I have always dreamed of walking in the snow outside my house, clicking photographs of snow filled alleys. I have never been to Manali, but melodies of nature whispering through fragrant pine breeze and colorful fruit orchards is something I definitely can cherish while I enjoy the virtual experience of this place. I would walk through the enchanting serenity of Apple orchards, Trees of Pears, Pomegranate and Walnuts early morning.

After spending 9 months in Kerala, I must say an experience in luxury houseboat is one in a life time. Ideally, I wouldn’t consider this as offbeat, but for me staying on running boat with lavish bedroom itself is unique. They pamper you with local delicacies which you will greedily finish and then lick the plate. I am heading to Kerala in July, and maybe I’ll go for a boat ride again.

Goa would be definitely the next home to me. Staying in an original Portuguese Goan cottage would be an experience in itself. Casa D’Souza is located at one of my favorite beach area, Anjuna. They have warm and minimal décor in the rooms. They serve Portuguese food as well along with local cuisine. I am hitting this place in the coming monsoon!
